Tentacles of Sustainability: How Grass Fibers Are Conquering the Fashion World

For over 15 years, Cortec has been using sustainable garment hangers made from grass fiber compounds sourced from the Odenwald region. Now, with the research project Gras-to-Plast, we’re taking it a step further!

Thanks to innovative research and new processing techniques, we will soon be able to extract not only high-quality fibers from permanent grasslands but also utilize previously unused plant species such as weeds. This means: more available raw materials, less waste, and an even more sustainable production process.

Our goal: A robust, flexible material that is perfect for durable and resource-efficient garment hangers. By doing so, we reduce the use of fossil-based plastics and contribute significantly to the circular economy in the fashion industry.

The potential is compelling: The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports the project, and we are excited to collaborate with Biowert and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences to create a greener future.
