As one of the pioneers of sustainable clothes hangers, Cortec has been strongly committed to the use of regional organic materials for more than a decade. In close cooperation with our customers, our constant efforts are now bearing fruit. In the last four years alone, we have almost tripled the amount of biomaterials used in our production.

However, we are not resting on our laurels – on the contrary, we are continuing to work intensively on expanding the use of biomaterials so that sustainable products will soon be among the dominant raw materials in our production.

In our search for raw materials that significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our clothes hangers, we found them on our own doorstep. The surprising solution: meadow grass. Surplus field grass is usually used to generate energy from biogas and often from the cellulose fibers it contains, which make up about 40% of the grass blade. Cellulose fibers are also a valuable commodity with excellent material properties. And it is precisely this natural fiber powerhouse that is the starting point for our grass clothes hanger, which is unparalleled in the world.

Together with our neighbors – the world’s only “grass factory” – we have developed a biomaterial that combines grass fibers with recycled or biodegradable plastics and is perfect for making clothes hangers. The AgriPlast material is tested and meets the strict requirements of the EU safety standard EN 71-3 for toys. AgriPlast is significantly more heat resistant than PLA, which is made from corn starch, and is definitely cheaper than cellulose acetate made from wood waste.

This distinguishes the grass material from many other wood-based biomaterials (often lignin), which can release harmful substances such as phenols or dioxins during processing. Additionally, we place great emphasis on logging and harvest cycles. This mix of advantages, especially the positive environmental impact, makes the new Corteco clothes hanger series so attractive that various internationally well-known brands only present their collections with our grass hangers made in the Odenwald. Our grass hanger already seems to be a real evergreen.
